We came upon The Queens B & B by accident as we visited South Queensferry, and happily, they were able to accommodate us just for the one night. This wonderful old house has been refurbished to the highest standard with taste style, attention to detail and quality. There is nothing “ordinary” about this establishment; my word for it would be “boutique”. The breakfasts on offer, from full Scottish to vegan, are cooked and presented beautifully to make the best start you could have to any day. Nothing is too much trouble for Angela who wants you to have the best visit possible and she will go to great lengths to make this happen. If you think I might be just a little OTT, just try it for yourself (if you can get in) and see if I am right.
Our hosts were so lovely and welcoming. As a vegetarian it was such a refreshing change to have a breakfast menu with interesting options! The Bircher is a MUST! Needless to say I would definitely return for any Edinburgh stays, but I also now fancy having some more time to enjoy the Queensferry area.
I couldn’t have chosen a more perfect place to stay than The Queens for my first Edinburgh Fringe Festival. A little unsure at first to stay outside Edinburgh, but South Queensferry proved to be the right choice. Not only an idyllic location on the Firth of Forth shoreline and by the Forth Bridge, this picturesque village has so many restaurants, bars, gift and art shops promoting local talent. And all within a short bus journey to Edinburgh.
Our hosts were extremely accommodating and went out of their way to make sure everything we needed was catered for. I was in a single room but I felt I had enough space. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower ultra modern and powerful. However, my favourite thing was the drink facilities with ground coffee, cafetière and fresh milk of your choice. A lovely way to start the morning. Breakfast was AMAZING! I’m now addicted to Bircher which I’d never heard of before. Follow that with the Full Scottish and you won’t be needing to eat again until the evening! Perfect for a day of exploring Edinburgh and The Fringe. I will certainly return to The Queens and would not hesitate to recommend it as a base whether you are coming for The Fringe or just to visit the area in general.
What I look for in a B&B is comfort, style and a welcoming atmosphere and I received all of those in abundance at The Queens. It’s such a beautiful space and the attention to detail in the design really pays off. I slept like a log! Breakfasts were outstanding with so many special home-made elements and good veggie choices. The breakfast room also made a great post-festival hang out for a nightcap and debrief. It was so lovely to attend the Edinburgh Fringe Festival but stay outside the hustle and bustle. It’s only a 40 minute bus trip, and if you miss the last bus, a black cab is about £25 which was quite cheap when split amongst our group. Angela and Judith (our hosts) were so helpful and made us feel like we’d been staying with friends or favourite aunts. Can’t recommend them highly enough.
Stunning decor. Delicious breakfast. And Angela (the Queen of the castle) is so bubbly and attentive. And the bed...so comfy.
